I know you all would like an update as there are some real important dates approaching so here it goes… SBG – Things are going very well in SBG over the past year or so we were able to get a couple of new classes of SSC’s and they are all on desk and doing a great job. Keep up the good work. I want to thank you all for Holiday Basket Drive. You guys came through in a tremendous way. I hope you all were able to view the photos that I sent out from our union brothers & sisters over at LCSA (Labors Community Service Agency) thanking us for our help. We do so much in our community it was great when they sent the photos so we could see the fruits of our labor. The smiles on the kid’s faces were priceless!!!!! They also sent us a couple of thank you cards and they are on the Union Board. Remember they may also have some services that may be of assistance to you in various situations. Don’t hesitate to give them a call to get information on a directory of services or Contact our Community Service Chair Person Dee Cantoni 602 331-7019. Remember ETN is not bargained for and we do not support this as it sends the message to the company that we are not needed. Find something to do to make your self more knowledgeable of the job we do or try to use your entitlement time. I am working with the Director to bring more work into the center and so far so good. There is currently a test pilot being done in our office and we have been asked to help. After serious thought and consideration, I agreed to allow the project to come into our group as it reduces the head count in the queue which opens up more calls for the other consultants on desk. Opportunities are springing up in a lot of places. We have 2 new additions to the Helpdesk and I think they are going to be great additions to that team. Stay abreast of other changes by checking with the structure: Dee, Mike and myself, my phone is always on. Retail – Things are a little hectic in retail we work with the ARM’s to try to keep things consistent. This will be a very important contract for this group (Ask and I will tell) the current contract does not give all that I feel is warranted for this group and some changes need to occur. So let’s stay focused and united to make them happen. Keep in mind that your work is bargained for and writing orders should be an occupational task. Leads have a lot of expectations but your primary goal is to achieve the objective. Everything else is secondary and there are NO consequences if the other tasks are not completed. The consequences are on the objective not being met (keep that in mind). If you call out, it is the manager’s responsibility to find someone to cover your shift not yours. I am working with the powers that be to determine what this new agreement we have endeavored into means to our work group. So far the feedback has been positive (change is always possible). We have to figure out a way to get all of the members in retail together to discuss the contract and the proposals that we are working on. Keep that in mind. I was thinking a late night meeting for the Eastside and one for the Westside. Since the malls all close at 9pm maybe 10:30pm. or an early morning locations to be announced. at&t – Things have been pretty calm in our area and I think that is a good thing. Work is consistent and conflict has been minimal. As the contract expiration nears, I expect that to change it always does. There have been a few new faces added to this group, be sure to make them feel welcomed. Stay in touch and let me know how I can be of assistance. Usually when I address an issue it ceases to be an issue. If that has changed please advise, my cell is always on. When contract expiration nears keep in mind we never know how things are going to go, so I have copied some things from the main page of the local’s web site www.cwa7019.org to keep in mind. The contract with Qwest expires on August 16, 2008. Don’t wait until the last minute. If you haven’t already started to plan, start now! Here are some things you can do: * Plan a budget and stick to it. Save any amount over the limits. * Plan to save enough to cover two or three months of mortgage payments. * If you work overtime, bank the extra pay. * Pay off or pay down credit card bills or other bills. * Delay major purchases until after the contract is ratified. * Save on vacations – explore the wonders of our own state. * Buy school supplies early. * Stock up on non-perishable, packaged foods and household cleaning items. Buy in bulk. * Fill your freezer with meats and frozen foods. * Get maintenance or repairs done on vehicles and your home. * Make sure medical appointments and checkups are done prior to August 13, 2008. * Reorder prescriptions and other medical supplies that you will need. * Notify any creditors that you may be on strike for awhile – discuss rearranging your payment schedule while you are out on strike. Remember to think ahead. Start planning now. BE READY! If you are not part of any of the committees that we have… please make time to check some of them out and invest in your local where your interests are. During the next couple of months I will be keeping the info on our unit very current be sure to check often. In Unity, Tracey Johnson opeiu30
