Mickie Wegner welcomed all who attended our Unit 6 Area 1 Meeting on 05-15-08 at the Hilton next to Qwest. Introductions were made of the guests Dave Wood, our V.P. ,and Tracey Johnson, the A.V.P. of Unit 4.
The election of an Area Rep was conducted since Mickie Wegner was appointed the A.V.P. Elaine Squyres was elected by acclamation. We sincerely thank Elaine for stepping up to this busy job.
We then conducted the election of a delegate for Area 1 to our local convention.
Jim Brooks was also elected by acclamation. Thank you Jim for stepping up. This position allows a person to attend the 1 day convention and see the inside works of the local and be involved in the decision making. Any Member can run for that position. The delegate is elected every year. If you would like to do that next year, please contact a steward to give your name and contact number. We will be conducting Dex Media delegate election before the end of June. Please notify Anna if you would like to run for that position.
Gayle Stouffer had resigned her position and Mickie Wegner has been appointed the A.V.P. of Unit 6 by the Executive Board until elections in the Fall.
New Issues: The regional Sales Support Department has obtained two new officers. Bob Dargy, our Director, and John Duffy, our Site Director.
We have open communications with the management in this department and do not for see any changes . The management and the A.V.P. and A.R. meet every other Tuesday for Leadership Meetings. In these meetings, we discuss things that are happening or may be happening in the center. We also try to head off any problems we see arising in the center. We have been doing this since Tom Amland and it has been very productive for both sides. If there is any thing you would want to be brought up for discussion, please tell a steward or let Mickie or Elaine know and we will put it on our list for the next meeting.
What is ahead for our Unit: Our Unit 6 will be merging into Unit 4 after the Local convention. We are combining, again, smaller units together in order to have better representation. It is beneficial for the members and it allows us to know how other departments work and their rules and regulations. It will be a challenge but I believe we are up to that challenge.
We are, once again, at the time of Election in our Local and the Nation. You will have the opportunity to elect your Union Officers including your Area Vice President. I do encourage any of you who are interested to call the Local at 602-331-7019, get the guidelines we have to follow, and throw your hat into the Ring. If any of you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Mickie at 602 670-3222.
I need to implore you, each and everyone of you to mail in your ballot when you get it!! Your vote does count in your Local and any other Election. It is sad that the Union send up to 2000 ballots out and get maybe 700 back. We all fought hard for the right to vote. By voting and changing things we need changed, it shows we are strong. We NEED your Support to make it successful.
This is a Bargaining year between the Union and the Company. We still have a restraining order PLACED on C.W.A. by Qwest for our mobilization efforts. The rules are very strict. We are going to be watched and restricted more than ever. Be careful and always ask for a union steward when you are with management. If You do not like the direction the meeting is going, and they do not want to supply a steward, you have the right to stop the meeting and go get a steward. If the company doesn’t want to pay for the steward’s time, the union will. You have that right to representation in any meeting you are in and are uncomfortable with the manager or the topic. When it isn’t a disciplinary meeting, you still have that right if you are not comfortable with the direction the meeting is heading. Sale Support is cracking down on the C.I.P. part of our job. Be aware of what your numbers are and contact us if need our help.
WE ENCOURAGE OUR MEMBERS TO WEAR ANY COLOR OF RED EVERY THURSDAY. The company definitely notices it as a strong show of strength on the floors. It doesn’t have to be a Union shirt, but any color of RED. I will be updating this when we have more to report. May God Speed and keep all of you safe.
Yours in Unity,
Mickie Wegner (602 670-3222)

Dear CWA Members of Unit 6,
Gayle Stouffer has resigned from her elected position as Area Vice President of Unit 6. I want to thank Gayle for her leadership and the time she has given to us and our Union.
On Thursday, March 20, 2008, President Chris Rossie swore me in as your new Area Vice President, Unit 6 Officer.
I want you all to know that I will represent you to the best of my ability and knowledge. It is a great honor to be able to step into this appointment. I have been the Unit 6 Area Representative for eight years. We have been through many management changes. Some good, some not so good! CWA has always worked for the good of its membership. We have a great Steward Structure, whom all work on a volunteer basis. The only compensation received is the Union making us whole during a scheduled shift when called upon to meet with members.
Protecting our workers rights is a passion with CWA. This passion will continue during my appointment until new elections are held in the fall of 2008.
Your Area Representative is Elaine Squyres and your Stewards are Janice Alexander, Kendra Bahm, James Brooks, and John Lane whom are always available to you. I can be reached by cell phone, 602-670-3222 or pager, 602-201-4045. My e-mail address is mwegner@cwa7019.org.
Updated Unit 6 information flyers have been posted on the bulletin boards on the 3rd, 14th and 15th floors.
I want to thank you again for allowing me the opportunity to be your officer and hope you will not hesitate to discuss any issue you may have for me.
Updates will be posted on the CWA Local 7019 Website: www.cwa7019.org addressing issues within our Unit. Please feel free to contact me with any specific issue you would like me to address. If I do not have an answer to your question, I will find one.
STAY STRONG AND LOYAL TO YOUR UNION AND ITS MEMBERS.
In Solidarity,
Mickie Wegner
Area Vice President, Unit 6
