Hello UNION Brothers and Sisters,

WONDERFUL NEWS! It was announced today in the Cobro's Center that our consultants will no longer have the stress of selling on their calls. As the news was being communicated, it was wonderful to see the smiles and the sigh of relief on our consultants faces.

As I listened to the communication in the huddles this morning, the company forgot to mention CWA. As we move forward and celebrate these changes, let us also know that CWA has been fighting this issue for a long time and today was a sign or our VICTORY!

To my UNION Brothers and Sisters, I wish to say thank you for your patience and your unity. To the Area Reps and Stewards who fight your disciplines and the UNION Brothers and Sisters at the District Level that kept the pressure on, I THANK YOU!

In Unity,

Irene Robles

Area Vice President

February 18, 2010

Hello to all of my membership. It's just the beginnings of 2010 and the challenges being thrown our way are becoming somewhat nerve racking.  Grievances are being filed in lieu of first level problem solving, as this process is slowly becoming extinct, so it then becomes necessary to meet with Team Leads in getting processes fixed and issues resolved.

El Centro - Area Rep Bertha Rivera

The center of the Universal Rep, at least this is what I see our reps becoming.  At present our reps in El Centro, are Sales Reps, Loyalty, Collections ( taking payments) and retail.  It's the expectation numbers are met every month and with the economy the way it is, it hasn’t been too kind in helping our sales reps meet those monthly quota's.  It's also been brought to our attention the overflow for English is an added obstacle.  We've brought this issue to the table at Leadership meetings and been told that English Overflow would eventually stop. Concerns that these calls are all billing calls which does not offer opportunity to sell or upsell, but the company always replies the opportunity is there.

As your Unionist, we are notified of all disciplines that take place with an employee, and it is our job to make sure there is JUST CAUSE to the discipline. In the past year, we have seen a very high number in performance disciplines in El Centro.

The Union filed grievances for every Performance Discipline, and has been very successful in backing most of them off due to the lack of Development.  The company has tried to present documentation which is unacceptable or did not exist.

At this time the Union is working on a High Profile Termination Case and is very close to getting this resolved with a Settlement...I will give you an update on my next post.

YOUCAN  - Area Rep John Seeley

For those of you who don't know about this center, The You Can relies on internal customers; That being our Qwest employees and the Refer a Friend program.  Expectations of meeting their numbers every month gets intense as it does in every Sales Environment.   Other departments are being trained to sell products and issue orders themselves, which just makes meeting objectives more difficult if the calls aren't coming in into the center for the orders to be placed by our Service Reps

Performance Discipline's are higher than normal for this center.  The expectation to meet
the number of wireless each month, without the fear you will be talked to or sent an email outlining your performance, which in short is "Great Job"  BUT...etc etc.  doesn't leave most with a warm and fuzzy feeling.

Grievances are at a low in here, Relationships between CWA and management are good and have given us the opportunity to work though our cases with success.

COBROS - Area Rep Rosemary Aguayo

"100 % UNION MEMBERSHIP "  In Cobros, stewards recently we gave out plaques to our members. If you did not receive one, please get with your Area Rep or Steward and they will make sure you get one.  NICE!  Your Steward Structure is posted on your Union Board.

Sales! Sales! Sales! This is what's new in the Collection World.  Our collections reps now have the opportunity to sell after they have just restored service to someone or collected a payment.  We're still trying to figure this one out.   "It can be done”  is what I'm told.  "How?" is my question back to them, still waiting for the answer.

You all have Devo's with your coachs. These meetings are very important to you.  Hold your manager accountable to know the job that is expected of you.

The Union has been very successful in removing all the discipline's for performance in your department.  It will continue to be a fight for us, but you all can help, know the right questions to ask when sitting in with your manager's in Devo's.   I hope to see you at the next Unit Meeting Feb 25th at the Hilton, as many of you have voiced concerns regarding the Sales expectations in your center.

Flyers say it is at 7pm, but I will be available from 4pm on for those you who get off early.

CDG / FSS -  Area Rep Mariano Godoy

CDG just recently did some reorganization in their structure.  OSR's were affected and some of the Retail Kiosk were shut down in some malls.  The SSC's who typed the orders for the OSR's were absorbed into Sales Support.  It's been a crazy transition for all, with the changes, job surplus, and changes in leadership.  Call volumes for this group are high as a result of the change in how OSR's perform their job today, Sales Support moved some of their reps over to help.  This is only temporary fix.  My hopes is that rec's will be put out for more SSC's and this will allow some movement for other's to transfer in.  In the meantime, CWA continues to work with Leadership in discussions with any changes that effect this group now referred to as the FSS group.

Unit 4 will be having a Unit meeting Feb 25th 7 pm at the Hilton.  These meetings are important to share your thoughts and concerns of what's going on in your CENTER's. For those of you who get off earlier, I will be available from 4pm on if wish to stop by before going home.  Your voice as a UNION Member is important.  I look forward to seeing you all there.

"KNOW" your rights when going into a meeting with management.

"REQUEST" a Steward when going into a meeting for Discipline or any other meeting you are asked to being in with management.

Get with your Area Reps or Stewards if there is information you would like to see on Your Union Boards.

Get Involved!  We are looking for committee members for various committee's, see a Steward or Area Rep if you have questions.

LEADERSHIP meetings are held with Directors and Team Leads every other week, If there is anything you want brought to the table, please see me or get with your Area Reps. These meetings are set up to help get resolutions to problems we see in our every life here at Qwest.  In my next report, I will post topics of discussions to give you an idea what they are about.

UNIT MEETING NEXT WEEK THURSDAY, FEB 25th 7PM AT THE HILTON.

Thank You and In Unity,

Irene Robles
